South Dakota Bobcat Location Submission Form
What do we want?
We are looking for detailed location information for bobcats harvested during the 2019/2020 trapping season in South Dakota. Currently, we know what county a bobcat has been trapped in. We are seeking more specific information about where a bobcat has been trapped, but we understand issues trappers may have providing this information. Many folks do not want to share specific locations or may not have access to specific location data.
Why do we need this data?
This graduate research project will help inform bobcat management and ensure future sustainable harvest of bobcats in South Dakota. Our study is using harvested bobcats to identify distinct bobcat populations in the state and to see how they interact with each other. This will include estimates of individuals moving between populations, how frequently movement occurs, and features on the landscape that may be allowing or impeding bobcat movements.
Will your location data be distributed or available to other?
No. Data you provide for this project will not be shared or distributed in any way. The location data will not be available to South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks. Any research or publications resulting from this data will not include specific locations, beyond general descriptions of data already available (county).
